A Real Parent's Story
Learning about heroes while feeding goats
“I read 'The Zookeeper's Wife' years ago. Standing in the villa where the Zabinskis hid 300 Jews, while my kids fed goats 50 meters away was surreal.”

I came to Warsaw Zoo knowing the history. My husband and kids just wanted to see animals. The memorial is beautifully done. I spent 15 minutes reading while the kids played nearby. When we regrouped, my oldest asked about the memorial. I explained that the zookeepers hid people during the war. She asked 'Was it dangerous?' Yes. 'Did they get caught?' Some did. 'But they did it anyway?' Yes. That conversation was more valuable than any zoo exhibit.
