Tips & Tricks from Real Parents
Buy a bag of kangaroo food ($2) at the entrance—it's the cheapest joy your kids will have all trip. The kangaroos are free-roaming and incredibly gentle.
Arrive when the gates open at 9 AM. By 10:30 the school groups arrive and the quiet magic disappears.
The koala encounter costs extra but is worth it. You get a professional photo and the koalas are actually awake (fed just before).
Skip the cafe. Bring your own picnic and eat at the shaded tables near the emu enclosure.
Combine with a visit to the Blue Mountains on the same day—Featherdale is on the way from Sydney and makes a perfect pit stop.

A Real Parent's Story
My daughter fed a kangaroo and I cried
“She was terrified of animals before Featherdale. By the end, she had a kangaroo eating from her hand.”

Our 4-year-old has always been cautious with animals. At Featherdale, we walked into the free-roaming kangaroo enclosure and within minutes she was holding food out to a gentle old roo named Bruce. The staff are patient and let kids go at their own pace.
