A Real Parent's Story

Crown jewels that my kids actually cared about

I bribed them with ice cream to visit 'another boring museum.' Then they saw the golden throne and the jeweled elephant howdah.

Colombo National Museum is a proper old-school museum - dusty cases, dim lighting, artifacts packed floor-to-ceiling. But the wow factor is real. The Kandyan throne studded with gems, the ceremonial swords, and the royal costumes caught my kids' imagination. The natural history section with the whale skeleton was the perfect break. We spent 90 minutes. Not for toddlers, but school-age kids who like treasure and kings will love it.
