A Real Parent's Story

Baby elephants are as clumsy as toddlers

A 3-month-old elephant tripped over his trunk at the river. My 5-year-old thought it was the funniest thing she'd ever seen.

Pinnawala was the reason we came to Sri Lanka with kids, and it delivered. Watching the herd march down the road to the river - traffic stops for them - is extraordinary. The river bathing is pure magic. Baby elephants splash and roll, mahouts scrub the big ones. It's not a zoo - the elephants have space and seem genuinely cared for. My kids asked a million questions about each rescue story.
