Why Families Love Skopje Zoo
A mid-sized municipal zoo in Skopje's City Park, home to around 500 animals including lions, bears, wolves, monkeys, and a growing collection of exotic birds. Following major renovations after a 2012 flood, the zoo has modernized many enclosures and added a children's petting zoo. It's a humble but charming zoo that offers a pleasant, low-cost family morning.

Tips & Tricks from Real Parents
Entry is about €2 — one of the cheapest zoo admissions in Europe. Donate a bit more to support ongoing renovations.
Combine with a stroll through Skopje City Park afterward. The park has a lake with paddle boats, playgrounds, and the famous City Park Zoo's sibling — the park's botanical garden.
The bear enclosure was rebuilt after the 2012 flood and is now the best exhibit. Visit it first while the bears are active.
Bring your own snacks and water. The kiosk selection is limited and prices are low but quality is average.
The zoo takes 1-1.5 hours to see. It's not a full-day destination. Pair with the Macedonia Square and Old Bazaar for a full day out.
The petting zoo has friendly goats and sheep. The keeper sometimes lets kids help with feeding if you ask nicely.

A Real Parent's Story
A simple zoo day that meant the world
“We spent $5 total for a family of four. My kids saw a real lion for the first time. It yawned. They cheered. Sometimes the simple things are the best things.”

I don't have much to spend on entertainment. Skopje Zoo made me feel like a hero for a fiver. My boys ran from cage to cage, pointing and shouting. The monkey house was their favorite — one chimpanzee was doing somersaults. The zoo isn't fancy but it's clean, the animals looked healthy, and my kids were beaming. That's all that matters.
