We rented a family kayak at Umiam Lake. My 8-year-old demanded to steer. My 6-year-old also demanded to steer. They compromised by both grabbing the rudder lines and pulling in opposite directions. We spent the next 30 minutes tracing beautiful circles in the water. I gave up trying to mediate and just leaned back, watching the pine trees and the clouds. It was honestly one of the most relaxing hours of the entire trip.
