Tips & Tricks from Real Parents
The giraffe's tongues are 45cm long, dark blue, and incredibly rough. Your kid will scream-laugh when they get licked. Embrace it.
Arrive at 11 AM for the official feeding talk -- the guides explain the conservation story and it's way more interesting than you'd expect.
Go mid-week to avoid groups. Weekends have long queues of local families and school trips.
The nature trail is short and easy -- a nice 15-min walk after the feeding.
Combine with Karen Blixen Museum (10 min drive) for a full morning. The museum has a lovely garden cafe.

A Real Parent's Story
When a giraffe kissed my 3-year-old
“A 14-foot giraffe bent down, extended its 45cm tongue, and gently took a pellet from my daughter's open palm. She shrieked with joy. I cried. My wife filmed the whole thing.”

The Giraffe Centre is small and you could spend just 30 minutes there. But we stayed 2 hours. The elevated platform puts you face-to-face with these magnificent animals. The guides are knowledgeable and passionate. Watching my 3-year-old feed a giraffe for the first time is a memory I'll never forget. Proceeds go to conservation -- it's wholesome in every way.
