Tips & Tricks from Real Parents

1

Entry is free but book a timed slot online. Weekend slots vanish 2-3 weeks ahead. Book the first slot at 10AM.

2

The Volcanoes and Earthquakes zone simulates an earthquake every 15 min. Warn younger kids.

3

Rent the free Family Backpack at the info desk — explorer tools and scavenger hunts for ages 4-9.

4

Avoid cafe lunch rush 12:00-13:30. The basement cafe is quieter, or picnic in Exhibition Road gardens.

5

Afternoon visits (post-2PM) are much quieter. The blue whale hall is most photogenic at 3PM.

I worried it would be too serious for young kids. Wrong. The hands-on science center kept them busy for two hours — a wind tunnel, simulated earthquake, real fossils. The mineral gallery was stunning. We stayed 6 hours and only left because we were starving.
