Why Families Love Lahore Zoo

One of the oldest zoos in South Asia, established in 1872 during the British colonial era and set on 25 acres in central Lahore. Despite its age, Lahore Zoo has undergone significant modernisation with new enclosures for the big cats, a walk-in aviary, a children's zoo, and an impressive aquarium complex. The zoo is home to over 1,300 animals including white Bengal tigers, Himalayan bears, chimpanzees, and an extensive reptile collection. The historic architecture mixed with manicured gardens gives it a unique character.

The walk-in aviary is a delight for toddlers - budgies and finches fly freely and you can buy feed sticks for PKR 50.

3

The toy train runs a short loop through the zoo. Kids love it. Tickets are PKR 30 at the station near the main entrance.

4

Winter weekdays are perfect - cool weather, fewer crowds, and the animals are most active.

A Real Parent's Story

The white tiger played peek-a-boo with my daughter

A white Bengal tiger kept swimming to the glass, diving under, then reappearing right in front of our daughter. She thought they were playing a game.

Lahore Zoo has come a long way from its colonial origins. The white tiger enclosure has a viewing window at water level. Our 4-year-old pressed her nose to the glass and a tiger swam over, submerged, then surfaced right in front of her face with a bubble stream. She screamed with joy. We watched for 20 minutes. The aviary was also a hit - she fed budgies from a stick and one landed on her head. A fantastic Lahore family outing.
