Tips & Tricks from Real Parents

1

Leave Jakarta by 6am. The Puncak highway is notorious for traffic and a 1-hour drive can turn into 3 hours after 8am.

2

The drive-through safari takes 45-60 minutes. Roll windows down in herbivore zones (zebras will stick their heads in!), keep them up in carnivore zones.

3

Buy the combo ticket (safari + animal show + water park) online — it's 20% cheaper than at the gate.

4

Bring baby wipes and a change of clothes. The baby orangutan encounter is messy and amazing.

5

The animal show schedule: 10:30am (bird show), 1pm (elephant show), 2:30pm (orangutan show). Plan around these.

6

Pack a lunch or buy at the on-site restaurant (decent but expect tourist prices). The picnic areas are shaded and have tables.

7

Go on weekdays only. Weekend crowds at Taman Safari + Puncak traffic = nightmare.

A Real Parent's Story

A zebra ate our map through the car window

A zebra stuck its entire head into our car and ate the rental paper. My 4-year-old screamed, then laughed so hard she snorted. That was minute 5 of the safari. The rest was pure joy.

Taman Safari is worth the 2-hour drive from Jakarta. The drive-through is incredible — zebras, giraffes, antelopes walk right up to your car. The baby orangutan feeding (11am) had my kids wide-eyed. We did the safari + animal shows + water park in one day. Exhausting but worth it.
