Why Families Love Jaipur Zoo
Located within the Ram Niwas Garden, Jaipur Zoo is one of Rajasthan’s oldest zoos, recently revamped with better enclosures and a dedicated children’s petting area. White tigers, leopards, and a walk-through aviary are highlights. The adjacent garden has a toy train and boating lake.

Tips & Tricks from Real Parents
Go at opening time (8:30 AM). The animals are fed between 9-10 AM and you’ll see them at their most active.
The children’s zoo section has rabbits, guinea pigs, and goats that kids can pet and feed. Bring some carrot sticks for an extra-special experience.
Combine with a visit to the Albert Hall Museum across the garden — it’s a 5-minute walk and has fantastic kid-friendly puppet shows on weekends.
The toy train ride circles the garden and costs just ₹20. Run by the garden, not the zoo, so buy tickets at the garden entrance.
Avoid summer months (April-June). The heat is brutal and most animals hide in shaded enclosures, invisible to visitors.

A Real Parent's Story
She fed a goat named Chiku and didn’t want to leave
“My city kid touched an animal for the first time at the petting zoo. A goat named Chiku ate carrots from her hand and she cried happy tears. We went back three times during our Jaipur trip.”

My 4-year-old daughter has always been nervous around animals. At Jaipur Zoo’s petting section, a park attendant showed her how to hold a carrot flat on her palm so the goat wouldn’t nibble her fingers. The goat (Chiku, she named him) gently took the carrot and she was hooked. We visited the same goat every day of our trip. This zoo isn’t fancy, but the kindness of the staff here is unmatched.
