Tips & Tricks from Real Parents

1

Book the elephant ride online in advance (₹1,100 per elephant, 2 people max) — the on-the-day queue can be 2+ hours long.

2

Arrive at 8 AM when the fort opens. You'll have the Sheesh Mahal almost to yourself for 30 glorious minutes before the tour buses arrive.

3

The Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace) is the highlight for kids — thousands of tiny mirrors that would have reflected a single candle into a thousand lights. Best seen with a flashlight app.

4

Skip the sound and light show if you have kids under 7 — it's an hour long, in Hindi/English, and little ones get restless. The day visit is more fun.

5

Wear good walking shoes and bring water. The fort is huge and there are staircases everywhere.

A Real Parent's Story

The elephant ride was worth every rupee — she still talks about 'Pinky'

Our 5-year-old rode an elephant named Pinky up the ramp to Amber Fort. She sat on the howdah, waving at tourists below like she was a maharani. For weeks after, every animal she saw was judged by 'Pinky standard.' No animal has ever matched up.

Amber Fort is stunning, but let's be honest — for a 5-year-old it's just a big old building. The elephant ride changes everything. Our daughter named her elephant Pinky (even though she was gray) and treated the 10-minute ride like a royal procession. Once inside, she was on a mission to find 'the sparkly room' (Sheesh Mahal). She spent 20 minutes waving her dad's phone flashlight around, watching the mirrors catch the light. We were there for 3 hours and she didn't complain once.
