Tips & Tricks from Real Parents

1

Buy a combined ticket with the Maritime Museum (same building). It's only €3 more and kids love the ship models.

2

The aquarium is small — expect 45 minutes to an hour. Combine with a walk on the Old Town walls for a full morning.

3

The octopus tank is near the entrance. Visit it early when the octopus is still active (it hides by midday).

4

There are no elevators. The fortress stairs are steep and uneven. Baby carriers work better than strollers.

5

Go right at opening (9am). By 10:30 cruise ship crowds pack the narrow corridors.

A Real Parent's Story

The octopus that watched us back

My 4-year-old pressed her nose against the glass of the octopus tank. The octopus slowly swam over, extended one tentacle, and pressed it against the glass opposite her face. They 'held hands' for almost a minute.

Dubrovnik was crowded and hot and we needed a break. The aquarium was a lucky find. It's small but the animals look genuinely well-cared for. The turtle rescue area in the back is touching — you can see the rehabilitation tanks. My daughter still asks about 'her octopus friend.' For the price of two gelatos, we got a memory that lasted years.
