Go early (8 AM) in winter months — by 10:30 AM it gets too hot for both animals and kids to be comfortable.
The children’s farm section has goats, sheep, and rabbits that kids can pet. Bring a small bag of carrots (check with staff first) for a memorable interaction.
The Arabian oryx enclosure is the star attraction — these majestic antelopes are Qatar’s national animal and very active in the morning.
Skip summer entirely (June-September). The heat is unbearable and most animals stay in air-conditioned indoor enclosures.

We’re Doha locals and had never been to the zoo. Took our toddler on a Friday morning and were pleasantly surprised. The new enclosures are spacious and clean. The petting farm is the highlight for little ones — the animals are gentle and well cared for. It’s not a world-class zoo but for the price (practically free) it’s a lovely morning out.
