A Real Parent's Story
The day the polar bear swam with us
“We brought our twin 3-year-olds to the zoo on a perfect 72-degree day. The polar bear exhibit has an underwater viewing window at toddler height. Both boys got down on their knees and the polar bear swam figure-eights above them for ten solid minutes.”

It was one of those golden parenting days. Nothing went wrong. The polar bear, Anana, was clearly in a playful mood. She swam laps in the underwater viewing area while my twins sat transfixed. A zoo volunteer came over and explained that Anana was doing her happy dance — a swimming pattern she only does when she is feeling good. We stayed for almost an hour. I took 47 photos. Two of them are framed in our living room.
